The NAVSEA OP 5 and many MIL-HDBKs are used to maintain complete grounding functionality, including static, LPS, and other grounding. We have extensive knowledge and experience in all of these areas.
If you've had lightning strikes in your area or are due for inspections, don't hesitate to contact us.
SLP has created Compliance Action Plans (CAPs), which are ready to be used in the field for NAVSEA OP 5 compliance. We are ready to go to your installation. Also, check out the Ground Resistance Testing section.
Taken directly out of the methodology section of our NAVSEA OP 5 CAP plan-
Testing accomplished under NAVSEA OP5, Vol 1, 7th revision.
Earth Resistance Testing- Ground testing device- AEMC 4620 was utilized for a 3-point fall of potential ground testing
and bonding.
Standards of Testing Utilized:
5-5.4.5.1Visual Testing. Ordnance grounds shall be visually inspected at least every 6 months to ensure that
connections are secure and free from paint, corrosion, or foreign materials that may impair the efficiency of the
systems. Visual inspections shall be recorded to reflect the inspection date, inspector, and results. Ordnance
ground inspections discussed herein do not include inspection of portable static ground cables used to connect
weapons and ordnance items to ordnance ground systems. These are discussed in paragraphs 5-9.7.
5-9.3. AIRCRAFT GROUNDING. During loading or downloading evolutions involving ordnance on rotary or
fixed-wing aircraft or arming/dearming (if required by the applicable aircraft ordnance handling manuals),
the aircraft shall be grounded. Aircraft ground point resistance, testing, and marking shall be in accordance
with MIL-HDBK-274(AS).
6-9.1.1.Frequency of Lightning Protection System Resistance Test. The resistance to earth of the lightning
protection grounding system shall be measured every 24 months. Included in the written report are measured
values for continuity, ground resistances, and soil conditions in which the time that measurements were made.
